Hashim Amla the most inspiring South African cricket player, holding the number of records for his country was born in Durban South Africa in 1983. He got numerous achievements in his career for South Africa as a batsman, sometimes he also does bowling as well. He has been holding the number of records and one of his best records is to reach fastest first 20 centuries in One Day International matches. In 2013, He awarded with the name of “Wisden Cricketers of the year”

Hashim Amla is a Muslim by born, he born in a Muslim family in South Africa. His family basically belongs to India Gujarat. Amla is a well practicing Muslim from childhood because of his family influence over him. He got admission in high school of Durban with his elder brother Ahmed Amla. His brother Ahmed Amla is also a cricketer by profession, made his debut earlier than Amla. Hashim Amla married with a Muslim lady Sumaiyah. His wife name is Sumaiyah Amla. She always wears the Hijab and she is also a practicing Muslim too.  Hashim Amla’s father name is Mohammad H. Amla.


Domestic Career

Amla started his domestic career with Dolphins and put exceptional performances for Dolphins and due to his best performance in domestic matches he was selected as captain of Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2002. South Africa got 2nd position under his captaincy in that world Cup. He was exceptional in his earlier career of cricket and became captain of Dolphins at the age of 21. After long-serving to Dolphins, Amla decided to move to Cape Cobras in 2013. Amla also remained the part of English county for Essex side. He was the first debutante who made two centuries in two matches.

International Career


He start his domestic career for a national club Dolphins and was one the top scorer ever for dolphin by scoring 4 centuries in his first 8 innings. Due to his exceptional performance in domestic cricket he was chosen for India tour for International cricket when he was only 21-year-old. He made his debut against India in 2004 in Kolkata. His first 2 years in International cricket was not so good and he was dropping from the South African squad. In 2006, he came back strongly and save a test match for South Africa against New Zealand. He was in a great touch in 2006 and scoring with an average of 57.10 in 19 matches. So after 2006 he is so consistent in his performance till now, and making his place permanent in South African Squad.

  • Fastest scorer who reaches 3000 runs in 59 Innings.
  • Only South African Player who made triple Century in the test match.
  • Amla is securing the top average scoring in ODI almost an average of 54.5.

Dean Jones Controversy

Dean Jones an Australian former cricketer and commentator called Amla a terrorist during a test match between Sri-Lanka and South Africa in 2006. When Amla took the catch Jones referred Amla as terrorist, as Jones was assuming that the broadcasting is switched off while broadcasting was on air including South Africa.  After that statement, Jones was criticized and condemned all around South Africa. After a lot of criticism, Jones turned toward Amla and apologizes for his statement and Amla accepted apologize.
