Who Is Rashid Khan?

Rashid Khan is an Afghan cricketer who represents the national team. Rashid Khan born on 20th September 1998 in Nangarhar, eastern Afghanistan. He made his One Day International debut for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe on 18th October 2015 and T20 debut also against Zimbabwe on 26th October. Rashid Khan played in the 2017 Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In June 2017, he earned the best bowling figures for an associate nation in a One Day International match.

Rashid Khan perhaps has claimed to the best cricketing teenager of his times. At the age of eighteen, he is not only is an indispensable addition for the Afghanistan cricket but also earned a contract from the cash-rich Indian Premier League, a market that prides itself on being agonizingly indifferent to the concept of sedimentation. While he grew up, he idolising Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi and copied his bowling action. He made his first class debut for Afghanistan against England Lions in Abu Dhabi in December 2016. In February 2017, Rashid fetched the highest bid for any Associate nation player ever, eventually having been bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 4 crore at the same auction that abandoned world’s top-ranked limited –overs bowler Imran Tahir, 38 then, red-faced with no bids whatsoever. He was also amongst the two first-ever Afghan players to be selected for the IPL. The Following month, he was bought by Guyana Amazon Warriors for $60,000 to play in the 2017 Caribbean Premier League. He took a hat-trick for Guyana Amazon Warriors in September 2017 which was the first hat-trick in the history of the CPL.

Rashid Khan In IPL

He made his IPL debut in the opening fixture of the 2017 tournament, where he took two wickets, as the Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by 35 runs. He finished the tournament as the sixth-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets from 14 matches. He signed with Adelaide Strikers in September 2017, to play in the 2017-18 Big Bash League. He was selected to play for the Quetta Gladiators in 2018 Pakistan Super League players draft.

Rashid Khan Internationl Career

He made his One-Day International debut for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe in October 2015 and rallied on to make his T20 International debut against the same team later that month. On the 10 March 2017, Khan took his maiden T20 five-wicket haul at the second T20 against Ireland. His figure s of five wickets for three runs is the best bowling performance by an Afghan cricket in a T20 and the joint fourth-best figures in all T20’s. In the ODI series against Ireland, along with Paul Stirling, they became the first pair of bowlers from different teams to each take six wickets in the same ODI. On 9th June he took his second ODI five-wicket haul, he took 7 wickets for 18 runs against the West Indies at Gros Islet.

Since childhood he has been following the Shahid Afridi bowling action, Rashid bowls similar lines-linear, from stump to stump and does so at a quick pace, not allowing the batsman any time to shimmy out and get to the pitch of the ball.
As much as his visible profile, Rashid is an agile fielder who is well capable of putting in the dives and then excels at clearing the big ropes in the slog overs to top it all.


  • In T20 International between Afghanistan and UAE on 18th December 2016, with the bowling figures 4-014-3, Rashid Khan Helped his team to win by 44 runs and earned a man of match award.
  • While playing against Zimbabwe on 19th February at Harare Sports Club, Rashid Khan earned another man of the match award with the performance 7.1-0-25-3.
  • He gave a Chart-buster performance in T20I vs Ireland, because of his performance Afghanistan won by 17 runs and he received the second man of the match award in T20I.
  • He also made the first ever Hat-trick of Caribbean Premier League 2017, and earn this honorable achievement.
