Shane Watson is a well known, famous, and richest Australian Cricketer, born on 17 June 1981 in Queensland Australia. His full name is Shane Robert Watson, and also, people love to call him by his nickname Watto. He is one of the best all-rounders in the world, and currently holding World No.1 all-rounder Position according to ICC ranking. His contribution always becomes the major part of Australian cricket team victory. He leads from the front and plays in an aggressive style. Mostly he opens the inning for Australia in T20 and ODI format. He is a right-handed batsman and right-handed medium-pace bowler as well. Shane Watson is spending triumphal and cherishes life with his small family. His family consists of a total of four members, including Watson, his wife and two children. After getting a lot of popularity around the world, he got married in 2010 with his girlfriend, Lee Furlong. Shane Watson was in love from a long time with his girlfriend, Lee Furlong; the couple decided to get married. Lee Furlong became the wife of Sane Watson. After the two years of their marriagein2013, the couple got a child, named William Watson. In the last year 2015, a baby girl born her name Matilda Victoria Watson was chosen by her mother.

Early Cricket Career

He started his career in little age, even when he was below than 16 years. He showed his best skills and exceptional talent in his early career in young age. Later on in 2000, due to his brilliant innings early on, he got a scholarship from AIS (Australian Cricket Academy). After getting the training, he keeps his journey continues towards the domestic career. He left his hometown Queensland for playing domestic cricket from Tasmania. His domestic career was so successful which smooth his track for International cricket. His next step was in International cricket, and he quickly made it. Watson praised his coach Terry Alderman for giving the useful training and for mentoring.

International Career


After showing his class in domestic career in Australia, Watson make out his place in Australian National cricket team. He was selected as an all-rounder and he is still serving his role as an all-rounder for Australia Cricket team. Watson started his international career in early 2002 when he was selected member of team for South Africa test tour. He was thought to be the first genuine all-rounder for Australia after Alan Davidson in1950’s. After all he proved himself the best all-rounder in the world. In his debut match against the South Africa he made century and remained not out. Watson was not more the part of team for season 2003-04 due to severe back injury. After the recovery of his injury he again joined the team in 2005 and became the best all-rounder in the world according to ICC ranking.

He put on different batting position in all out his career. He played at No 6 at his early ODI matches and later on moved to NO 4. Where ever he batted, he bat exceptionally well and outstanding at every position assigned to him. He also mostly found as an opener in the ODI and T20 matches.  He is one of the few captains’ of Australia who has been remaining the captain in all the format of cricket. Watson has done captaincy in the entire format, now in 2016 he is appointed as T20 captain of Australian team.

T20 World Cup 2012

This is one the best world cups for Watson, due to his tremendous performances in entire tournament make his side champion of T20 World Cup 2012. He showed extra-ordinary batting skills as well bowling spell in whole championship. In T20 World Cup 2012 he won the man of the match title four times consecutively against Ireland, West-Indies, India and South-Africa respectively. He remained dominant in the entire tournament in T20 World Cup 2012. He holds the man of the tournament award due to his brilliant and marvelous performance throughout the tournament.

ODI World Cup 2015

He was not found in form in the early few matches of World Cup 2015 as he was unable to score well against England and New-Zealand. Later on the world cup he performed so good with the bat and ball as well. He was the man to win quarter final for Australia against Pakistan as Aussies were struggling against Pakistani bowler. He faced a very dangerous spell of Wahab Riaz in the quarter final. Watson’s catch was dropped at 4 runs by Rahat Ali at square leg on Wahab Riaz bowl. After the match Watson praised for Wahab Riaz and cite as best spell he ever faced. This spell of Wahab Riaz got much fame in the media all around the world. He also catch applaud from the Aussies former cricketers and Australian crowd.

Watson IPL Career

IPL Career of Watson is quite amazing and appraisable. He started his IPL career with the Rajasthan Royals. He secured the title of man of the tournament on the first event of IPL. He is the only player of IPL event who secured this title twice in the history of IPL.

  • He is the only Australian player who got most sixes , best bowling figures in T20 International
  • Watson is the only player who made a century and picked up a wicket in the same match as a captain in T20 International
  • Watson scored four consecutive fifties in T20 World Cup 2012 and secured man of the match awards in all those matches. This achievement was carved in the history of T20 international cricket.
